LITERACY AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

(All of these sessions will fulfill the requirements for Nebraska Step Up to Quality, Department of Health and Human Services, and Rule 11.)

The six-hour training will cover the main concepts of Literacy and Language Development for children from birth to age 5, and is one of the domains in the Early Learning Guidelines from the Nebraska Department of Education. All participants will receive a certificate of completion and this session can be counted toward a child care provider’s 12 clock hour training requirement. Topics covered include:
Listening and Understanding

Speaking and Communicating
Phonological Awareness
Book Knowledge and Appreciation
Print Awareness and Concepts
Early Writing and Alphabet Knowledge

Barbara Beck is an Early Childhood Instructor at Central Community College, and a former preschool and early intervention teacher. She earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood from UNK in 1995.
