LITERACY AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
REGISTRATION FOR THIS SPECIAL EVENT INCLUDES BREAKFAST w/ KEYNOTE SPEAKER
PLUS AUTHOR LUNCHEON w/ SPEAKER
(All of these sessions will fulfill the requirements for Nebraska Step Up to Quality, Department of Health and Human Services, and Rule 11.)

The six-hour training will cover the main concepts of Literacy and Language Development for children from birth to age 5, and is one of the domains in the Early Learning Guidelines from the Nebraska Department of Education. All participants will receive a certificate of completion and this session can be counted toward a child care provider’s 12 clock hour training requirement. Topics covered include:
Listening and Understanding

Speaking and Communicating
Phonological Awareness
Book Knowledge and Appreciation
Print Awareness and Concepts
Early Writing and Alphabet Knowledge

               Mary Beth Pistillo is an Education Facilitator at the Buffett Early Childhood Institute, where she works to coach and support teachers that are teaching in the schools that are implementing the Superintendent’s Plan. She was also a Training Coordinator for the Office of Early Childhood at the Department of Education, but really wants to be known as a Pre-K/Kindergarten Teacher, which she was for six years at Omaha Public Schools.
