Mission and Bylaws

The mission of the Nebraska State Reading Association is to lead in the promotion of literacy in the state of Nebraska through collaboration, advocacy, and professional development.

Message from the President

Welcome to the Nebraska State Reading Association, a Council of the International Reading Association web-site!   The mission of the NSRA is to lead in the promotion of literacy in the state of Nebraska through collaboration, advocacy and professional development.  We are a non-profit organization with a membership of over 800 classroom and pre-service teachers, reading coaches and specialists, librarians, administrators and university instructors.  We are tied together by a passion to impact the literacy instruction which Nebraska youngsters receive and a desire to lead them to become life long readers.  Although we are mostly an organization of educators, our membership is open to anyone who desires to make a difference in the literacy of Nebraska  citizens.

NSRA is an affiliate of the International Reading Association. There are ten local councils throughout the state actively working at supporting our mission and goals.
When joining one of the local councils, you automatically become a member of NSRA.
Membership includes a tri-annual newsletter, The Reader, and reduced rates to attend our annual conference.

Our annual state conference provides the highest quality professional development opportunity for educators in the state of Nebraska. Available to our members are scholarships and our local councils are able to apply for grants as well.  We take pride in recognizing the accomplishments of individuals and outstanding reading programs, through our annual awards. Additional awards and recognitions are given to businesses and agencies who also provide outstanding support to reading projects.

I invite you to surf our web site to gain a better understanding of NSRA and all we have to offer.  Membership, conference, scholarships, contact information, networking opportunities and much more are available with a few easy clicks.  We appreciate your interest and look forward to welcoming you as a member.

Proudly,

Linda Placzek
NSRA President
