Judy Lauby earned her B.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1969, after which she taught at the Nebraska State School for children with developmental disabilities until 1976. She began working for ESU 10 following receiving her M.S. in 1978. She has served birth-to-21 students in home, preschool and school settings. In 1998, she became Speech Services Coordinator for ESU 10, as well as an evaluator for the Nebraska Diagnostic Center at Cozad. When the State ASD Grant took effect in 2003, she became part of the Central Region ASD Team.

In her position as Speech Services Coordinator, Judy has had the opportunity to attend the American Speech Hearing Association Convention each year. Judy and Karen Verraneault, ESU 10 Resource Services Coordinator, heard Nancy Telian, developer of Lively Letters, at ASHA in 2012. Judy and Karen learned that if they could guarantee over 100 participants, Nancy would come to Nebraska to present at no cost. They brought Nancy to ESU 10 in Kearney where Nancy presented to over 150 teachers, resource specialists and speech language pathologists. As a result, the evidence-based program, Lively Letters, has been used in general education classrooms preschool-2nd and as Tier II and Tier III interventions with documented success. This presentation will be based on Nancy’s work.
