In this session we will look at ways to combine close reading, comprehension strategies and informational text. Many possible mini-lessons and strategies will be shared that you will be able to implement right away into your classroom. Together we will explore ways to excite students to read and comprehend informational text.

Sounds Abound: A Meaningful and “Funemic” Approach to Word Study
Be ready to have some fun in this lively session! Participants will explore interactive, creative ways to help their readers become phonologically aware and phonically sound. They will also engage in techniques to help students synchronize strategies into a fluent
pattern, comprehend, and make meaning of text. Participants will learn to design multi-sensory instructional techniques that strengthen students’ word analysis, fluency, and comprehension abilities. This session is hands-on using many common classroom and household items. You will see how elastic, play dough, and chips can be your matches to light the phonics’ fire in your students. Be ready to shake, rattle, and roll!
